Environmental Accountability

One of the objectives resulting from the so-called Kyoto Protocol that envisions a global reduction of CO2 emissions is Climate Neutrality when producing goods and services of any kind. The thinking behind it is simple: Greenhouse gases do damage globally. To protect the environment it is therefore not relevant where emissions are produced or reduced. Hence, unavoidable emissions in Location A can be offset against environmentally friendly activities in Location B. In practical terms, this can be affected through purchasing or deleting emission reduction certificates issued by accredited climate protection projects.
Apart from striving to over all reduce CO2 emissions by our company to a minimum, IMS offers their clients such an opportunity to offset unavoidable emissions. This is achieved by investing in a UN certified climate protection project that neutralizes just the amount of CO2 emissions that was emitted in executing a given assignment.
While doing so, IMS differentiates between fixed and variable CO2 emissions. Fixed emissions result from energy consumption for heating our offices and warehouses, our staff's daily commute to work or the paper consumption in our offices. Variable emissions are a direct result from activities undertaken in the course of an assignment, influenced by e.g. distance between origin and destination, means of transport, and type and volume of e.g. carton packaging materials. The climate control calculator developed for IMS takes account of both fixed and variable CO2 emissions.
